Science education contributes to developing scientificall and technologically literate citizens who will be able to make informed decisions about their lifestyle, their environment and the kind of society in which they wish to live. They will be able to see the connections between science and people, not the relevance of science and technology to past achievements and current and future development and be aware of the impact of science and technology on society, the indivdual and the environment.

Learning science and its methods of investigation encourages students to develop curiousity and a spirit of inquiry and helps them to be open-minded and to value objectivity. Students are encouraged to adopt critical perspectives, to recognise the limitations of science and to respect and share responsibility for the local and global environment.

During years 7 and 8 students study a common course which covers a wide range of disciplines and provides a foundation of understanding on which to build in future years.

In years 9 and 10 students select from a wide range of elective units that cover the core concfepts from Phjysical, Chemical, Biological, Earth and Space Sciences in a "hands on" contextual format. Students will select a minimum of three semester length units over the two years. Each unit is graded according to the complexity of practical work and conceptual difficulty rather than to particular year level.

VCE courses on offer include Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics and Psychology. It is possible for students to cover units 1 and 2 from one of these areas during their studies at year 10
