BARWON DIVISION ATHLETICS

Congratulations to all students who completed in the Barwon Athletics championships at Landy Field on Friday May 1. Fielding a full team this year became problematic with many student in the 14 and 15 years age groups away on the Tasmania camp and a number of other students withdrawing due to a variety of reasons. There were still many pleasing performances from our students throughout the day.

On a perfect day, weather-wise, there were 26 individual winners and 3 relay teams that won their events. Three of the six records broken on the day were due to fantastic performances from Oberon students.

Kasey Parish broke the 15 years girls Javelin record, setting a new benchmark of 32.95m. The highlight of the day came from outstanding performances in the 100m and 200m events by Georgia Boal, who broke long-standing records. In the 200m Georgia ran 25.74 sec beating the previous record from 1983 and in the 100m, she ran 12.33 sec eclipsing the record that has been standing since 1976. This follows her amazing effort last year, setting new records in the 100m and 200m that also stood for over three decades. Congratulations to both Kasey and Georgia.

Students and relay teams who won events at this competition have qualified for the Western Metropolitan zone championships, which are to be conducted at Aberfeldie Park in Essendon in the last week of term 3.
