Armstrong Creek Development

The Victorian Government made a commitment to deliver 100 new schools between 2019 and 2026. This school, to open in 2021, was part of this commitment. We are moving Oberon High School to the Armstrong Creek Education Precinct.

The college will be located in the precinct, next to the Armstrong Creek School, a combined primary and specialist school.

We’re planning the new college for 1,100 students, which will help alleviate enrolment pressures for surrounding schools and meet the demand of a booming population.
The relocation stemmed from a Department of Education and Training review to improve school provision in Geelong.

FUNDING

In the 2018-19 State Budget, $3.9 million was allocated to the school. In the 2019-20 State Budget, the school shared in $624.8 million allocated for new schools.

PLANNING COMMITTEE

Oberon High School’s school leadership team, school council and student leadership team will form a planning committee with staff from the Department of Education and Training (DET) Regional Office.

This committee will ensure that decisions about the school’s relocation are considered with adequate care and input from all areas of the school community.

The school leadership team will keep the broader school community informed and updated throughout the relocation process

ENROLMENT ZONES

As you may be aware the Find My School website has been launched. The website displays the current zones for Oberon High, Belmont High and Grovedale College and not the future zones.  As a school we are often asked for clarification regarding the enrolment zone for the school, given our relocation to Armstrong Creek for the beginning of the 2021 school year.

Students entering Year 7 in 2020 have multiple enrolment options. They may choose to:

  • enrol in Year 7 at Oberon High School and remain at the school when it relocates to the new Armstrong Creek site (any siblings wishing to enrol at Oberon High School in the future would be considered as a priority)
  • enrol in Year 7 at either Belmont High School or Grovedale College if that school will become their future closest designated neighbourhood school when the new secondary school at Armstrong Creek opens.

You can find 2020 school zone maps, and  future enrolment boundaries, on the findmyschool.vic.gov.au website and at www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au/schools/Pages/OberonHighSchool.aspx. Policies on enrolmentplacement, and admission are available on the Department of Education and Training (DET) website.

SCHOOL NAMING

The Minister for Education consulted with the school community in regards to the school name following its relocation.  He has confirmed that the school will retain its name, Oberon High School.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

As the school has only recently updated its uniform, this will not change after relocating.

BUILDER APPOINTMENT

We have appointed Kane Constructions to build the new campus. They have begun to survey the new school site and erect fencing in preparation for ground works.
